Fred Marquand is not a name that is often mentioned when history buffs gather, but anyone that has done research on tattooists from the Pacific Northwest knows the name. Marquand was a man of many talents, like most of his generation he started tattooing at a very young age, hand poking tattoos on himself and willing friends. Traveling sideshows coming through his home town further fueled his interest in the art and by 1920s he had moved away from hand tattooing and had his fist tattoo machine.
