Volumes 1 and 2 of Drawings for Tattoos centered on Ed Hardy’s drawings for custom tattoo commissions, some of which he never tattooed. Volume 3, of what is being called his “Kiddy Flash”, shows the process of how a great tattooist arrives at the finished tattoo and is truly a revelation. The focus of this third volume is drawings done between 1955 and 1957, when Hardy (at age10-12) was applying “tattoos” with eyeliner and colored pencils on neighborhood kids. He and his partner in the “toy tattoo shop” were featured in a photo article in his local paper, which is included in this book along with pictures of hs work. This volume pulls back the curtain of how a young boy laid the foundation to become one of the great tattooists of our time. Volume 3 of Drawing for Tattoos by Don Ed Hardy shows how that foundation was built, brick by brick.
